Broxson Also Awaiting Wife

Now that the ice has been broken the existence of more English wives of returned Walla Wallans are coming to light.

An illustration is Mrs. Melbourn Broxson of Staffords, Staffordshire, England, who is still awaiting transportation to join her husband here who is emplooyed by Amery & Sons. He worked there three years before the war.

Broxson was stationed in England three years with an 8th air force outfit and met his wife there. They were married September 2, 1944. He was discharged at Fort Lewis December 7 and has been trying to arrange for Mrs. Broxson and their young daughter to join him here ever since.

"I had plenty of time in overseas and have No. 1 priority,: he observed Thursday afternoon. "My wife should have been in the first group to come over but for some reason she was not" He has appealed to the Red Cross which has dispatched telegraphic inquiry to determine the chances of Mrs. Broxson starting her long trip to Walla Walla in the near future. The Red Cross chapter office has assisted him in filling out the necessary papers to submit to the American consul overseas.

Broxson is a native of this city being the son of Mr. and Mrs. C. M. broxson, 419 Chase, where he is currently residing. He was a staff sergeant in the army air forces. He had a total service of four years.

He and Sgt. Harold Yenney went in the army the same day and of all the Walla Wallans who were in England the only other home town person he met in that country was Harold Yenney. Incidentally Yenney is another Walla Wallan who is anxiously awaiting the arrival of his wife, who is a London girl. She is expected to come to Walla Walla, too.

Besides entering the army on the same day. the two Walla Wallans were discharged simultaneously.

British Bride Reaches Here

Another British war bride; Mrs. Melbourn (Margaret) Broxson, arrived in Walla Walla Wednesday. She reached Pendleton early that morning to be met by her husband and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.M. Broxson, 419 Chase.

Accompanying her was their 10-month-old duaghter, Janice. Mrs. Broxson left England February 24, arriving in New York March 1 and leaving there the morning of March 2. She made remarkably good time coming west and advises her family here the Pullman coach on which she and the other war brides came west was the best on the entire train.

She was one of four English brides coming to this district others going to Milton, Freewater, and another city she could not remember.

The newcomer is quite entranced witht the Pacific Northwest but didn't care about that part of the East she saw. Several American Red Cross women workers and an army medical officer accompanied the group west.

She and her husband met and were married in England where he was stationed three of the four years he was in the army. She heard on the Queen Mary where she and her daughter had a stateroom to themselves that there was another girl coming to Walla Walla in the party aboard but she never did get to meet the other.

"The Red Cross workers treated us fine all the way," Mrs Broxson advised her husband.

The Broxsons are more fortunate than most being in a new home at 1221 Portland avenue.

First GI Baby is Born in Walla Walla

Mr. and Mrs. Melbourn Broxson, 1221 Portland avenue, are the parents of a son born Monday at St. Mary's hospital. mrs Broxson, on of Walla Walla county's GI war brides, arrived in Walla Walla from England March 6 and the boy is believed to be the first child in the Northwest born to an English or forein war bride.

Although there is no offical confirmation that this is the first child, a check of several other Northwest cities revealed there have been no similar instances in those places.

Mr. and Mrs. Broxson were married in England, September 2, 1944 after he had been stationed there three years. He returned home and was discharged last December. They have one other child, a daughter 13 months old.
