Generation No. 2

2. ALICE JANE2 MOSER (OLIVER1) was born 04 Sep 1855 in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, and died 09 Mar 1949 in Weston, Umatilla, Oregon. She married JAMES KIRKPATRICK 04 May 1873 in Centerville, Umatilla Co., OR, son of JAMES KIRKPATRICK and BETSEY CLARK. He was born 04 Mar 1843 in New York, and died 06 Apr 1926.

Notes for ALICE JANE MOSER:

Walla Walla Union Bulletin (Walla Walla, Washington) > 1949 > March > 10 page 21

WESTON - Death came Tuesday to one of Weston's oldest and highly esteemed pioneer citizens, Mrs. Alice Kirkpatrick, after a long illness.

Alice Jane Moser, daughter of the late Oliver and Harriet Moser, was born September 4, 1855 at Mt. Pleasant, Iowa and died at her home in Weston, March 9 (1949) at the age of 93 years.

She was the second of a family of nine children and was the last surviving.

With her parents she crossed the plains in 1864 and settled at Roseburg, coming to Weston in 1872, where she lived the rest of her life.

On May 4, 1873 she was united in marriage to James Kirkpatrick at Centerville (now Athena). To this union four sons and four daughters were born. Three sons and two daughters preceded her in death. Kirkpatrick, a veteran of the Civil War died on April 6, 1926.

Mrs. Kirkpatrick took an active part in the religious civic social and fraternal life of Weston as long as her health permitted. Her ability to see the brighter side of life and ready wit were outstanding. A good neighbor, she was never happier that when being hostess at a shower for a bride-to-be.

A great love of nature found expression in jingling rhythm. Many of her jingles (as she called them) having been published and others were given to friends.

Mrs. Kirkpatrick was a member of the Methodist Church and the Rebekah Lodge. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Kate Affleck and Mrs. Odessa Neild of Portland, and one son, Earle Kirkpatrick of Weston; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
