Notes for JAMES FRANKLIN FURNISH:

With his wife and three year old son (William Jeffers Furnish) he traveled by oxteam from Missouri to Oregon. He died on the trail in Lost River, ID. His wife and son continued the trail, reaching Oregon and settling in The Dalles, then moving to Dallas and finally settling in Pendleton in 1870

William Jeffers Furnish was elected to two, two-year terms in 1890 to succeed Houser. Furnish was born in Randolph County in Missouri in 1862 and moved to Oregon in 1890. Before he was elected Sheriff, Furnish was a Deputy U.S. Marshal for three years. After leaving the Sheriff s Office, he served two terms as Mayor of Pendleton.

Furnish was in the mercantile business with Sheriff John Lewis Sperry, who owned Sperry & Co. He also worked as a wool dealer and helped reorganize Pendleton Savings Bank. In 1902, he helped start the Furnish Ditch Company to irrigate 10,000 acres in the west end of Umatilla County. Furnish had a half-brother, C. J. Fraker, who was a Deputy with the Union County Sheriffs Office.

I am looking for information and family members of James Franklin Furnish. All I know is that he was born in Missouri (I don't know where or when) and he died enroute to Oregon in 1865. He married Eliza Frances Williams in Missouri (and she was born in Missouri in 1844). They had two children in Missouri (Margaret and William) and the family came west in 1865. Does anyone know anything of James Franklin? Thank you ~ Trudy
