He signed a will on 26 Jan 1857 in Des Moines Co, Ia. Will is in probate ox A118, Des Moines County, Ia.
Text reads as follows:
In the name of God, Amen! I, John Chrisinger of Des Moines County, Iowa, do make publish and declare this to be my last will and testament:
First. I desire my body after death, to be decently buried, without any unnecessary show or expense.
Second. I desire all my just debts to be paid by my executors, hereinafter named out of my estate.
Third. I give, devise and bequeath to my beloved wife, if she survives me, one third of all my estate both real and personal, to be held for her use and support during her natural life, by my said executors.
Fourth. All the rest and residue of my estate, with the exception of the legacies hereafter named, together with the portion of my estate herein bequeathed to my beloved wife, remaining after her death, I hereby give, devise and bequeath to my two sons, Robert and Philip Chrisinger, in equal shares, one half to each. I will them to retain the farm so long as it may be agreeable to them and cultivate the same together; in the mean time taking care of and supporting their mother during her life, should she live longer than I do.
Fifth. The device of the real estate above named to my said sons is with the understanding and condition: should either one of my said two sons die without lawful true surviving heirs, then the whole of said real estate shall go to the other. And in the event of the death of both the said Robert and Philip without such lawful issue surviving them, then the said real estate shall be sold and the proceeds distributed to my heirs, as they may be entitled to the same under the laws of Iowa.
Sixth. I give and bequeath to my sons George, James, St. Clari, Andrew, John and Thomas,a nd to my daughters Jane and Mary Anne, to each five dollars, to be paid to them by my Executors, one year after my decease. This is intended by me to be in full of any claims by them or other of them upon my estate, except in the event of the death of both the said Robert and Philip without lawful issue surviving them.
Seventh. I appoint my two sons Robert and Philip Chrisinger executors of this my will. I vest in them the title of the property herein given and bequeathed to my beloved wife during her life, and I authorize them to sell so much of my personal property as may be necessary to pay my debts and the legacies herein set forth. In case they prefer to pay the same from their own means, then they may use their discretion as to selling any of my property. I further authorize them, or the Survivor of them, to act as such Executor or Executors without being required to give security for the performance of the duties aforesaid. I trust in their integrity and faithfulness to see my will carried out.
The real estate herein referred to is the farm in Des Moines County, on which I and my wife now live with my two sons Robert and Philip, containing one hundred and fifty acres more or less. And my intention is by this will to give to them the said real estate, subject to their mother's claim therein, in equal parts, one half to each, for life with remainder to his legal issue surviving him. And in the event of the death of either of my said Sons without leaving such issue, the interest and estate hereby devised to such son is to go to the other. In the event of the death of such issue of either of my sons, under age and unmarried, the whole of said estate is to go to the other in the same manner as above, and with the same restrictions. In the event of the entire failure of such issue of my said two sons, or the death of the same under age, unmarried and without issue, the said estate shall descend to my right heirs. I appoint my said tow sons Robert and Philip Executors.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal this twenty sixth day of January, 1857.

His obituary reads as follows: "An Old Pioneer Gone" St. Claire Chrisinger, an Aged Citizen, Died Last Evening. Was 85 Years Old, and Lived in Burlington Almost 25 Years - A Noble Life - Funeral Sunday. A noble life was ended at seven o'clock last night, when Mr. St. Claire Chrisinger passed away at his home on the corner of Aetna and Gunnison streets, West Hill.
For some time past, Mr. Chrisinger's strength had been falling steadily, and his death was not unexpected. The last hours of his life were quiet and without suffering, and the departure from this life was a most peaceful one.
Many friends in the city will miss very much the familiar face of the good old man, who had endeared himself to the hearts of hundreds of friends. His life was pure and good, and during the many years of his residence here he was loved by many and respected by all who knew him.
St. Claire Chrisinger was more than 85 years old. He was an eastern man, having lived during the earlier part of his life in Pennsylvania and other of the eastern states. Mr. Chrisinger was a ship-builder by trade, and spent many years in the government ship-yards. During the civil war he was employed by the government in the yards near Pittsburg, and worked on the vesesls (sic) that were built for service in the war.
Almost twenty-five years ago Mr. Chrisinger moved to Burlington, and has lived here since that time. He leaves two sons, Homer, who lives in Denver, and John M., who lives with his family in this city. Mrs. Chrisinger survives her husband also. One daughter, Mrs. Emma Hartsell, is also living. There are three brothers of the deceased, Robert, living in Oregon; Phillip, living in Oakland, Cal., and John, living in Chicago.
The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon from the residence on Gunnison street.

7. WINFIELD SCOTT3 WOTRING (JANE2 CHRISINGER, JOHN G1) was born 14 Jul 1847 in Licking county, Ohio. He married SARAH J. ACRES 17 Mar 1870 in Burlington, Des Moines, Iowa, daughter of STEPHEN T. ACRES. She was born Abt. 1847 in Gibraltar.
Notes for WINFIELD SCOTT WOTRING:
Biographical review of Des Moines County, Iowa, Chicago, Hobart Publishing Company, 1905, page 317
Winfield Scott Wotring.
Winfield Scott Wotring, who for thirty-seven years has been connected with the Burlington postoffice, employed therein continuously since 1873, is now suprerintendent of carriers and also of the moneyorder department. Under different administrations he has been retained in the office, his ability and fidelity causing his retention, while his obliging manner and unfailing promptness are the causes of his popularity with postmasters and public.
Mr. Wotring was born in Licking county, Ohio, July 14, 1847. His father, Abraham Wotring, was a native of Pennsylvania, as was his grandfather. his birth occurred in 1821, and in early life he learned the carpenter's trade which he followed for many years. Removing to Burlinton, he was identified with the building interests of this city for many years, and at his death, which occurred in 1885, he left a comfortable home at 723 North Eighth Street. He was married in Ohio to Miss Jane Chrissinger, also a native of Pennsylvania, who survived him unitl 1890, and was then laid to rest by his side in Aspen Grove Cemetery. They were faithful memebers of the Methodist Episcopal church. In their family were three children: William, who died in Burlington, at the age of twelve years; Winfield S., of this review; ;and Melissa, widow of George Quinby, who for many years was engaged in the wholesale music trade in Burlington, and afterward lived retired in Monmouth, Ill. There his death occurred, and Mrs. Quinby is yet living in Monmouth.
It was in 1848 that the parents removed with their family from Ohio to Burlinton, and Winfield S Wotring, then but one year old, was educated int he public schools here, in Elliott's Seminary (a Methodist Episcopal school), the Baptist College, and Bryant & Stratton's Business College, of Chicago. During the Civil War, when the soldiers were being transported from Burlington to Chicago, Mr. Wotring, then fifteen years of age, acted as a newsboy on the trains, selling papers and fruit to the enlisted men who were going to the front. He desired to enlist also, but his father opposed this, because of his youth, and after going with the soldiers to Cairo, Ill., he returned home. He then entered the postoffice, in 1861, under Postmaster James Fox Abraham, as assistant mailing, and served for two years, when he resigned to accept a clerkship in the office of Leo Carper, superintendent of Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad. At that time all freight was transferred across the river by ferry, for the bridge was not then built, and Mr. Wotring's duty was to check and keep record of all such transfers; but he was wanted again in the postoffice, and was urged to return. Finally consenting, he was made mailing clerk. Thomas French succeeded Mr. Abraham in the postoffice, remaining there for six months, and retained Mr. Wotring in his service. C. Dunham was then made postmaster, and Mr. Wotring remained for one year under President Grant's administration, when he resigned his position in the postoffice and joined his brother-in-law, George quinby, in the conduct of a wholesale music business, under the name of Quinby's Musical Emporium, on Main Street. Mr. Wotring was associated with this for three years, and in 1870 and 1871 was engaged int he grocery business on the corner of Eighth and South Streets as a member of the firm of Quinby & Wotring.
In 1873 he was appointed by Postmaster N. P. Sunderland to the position of registry clerk, and when Frank Hatton succeeded to the position of postmaster, he was promotted to the position of superintendent of the money-order department. When J. L. Waite became postmaster, he retained Mr. Wotring in that position, and also made him superintendent of carriers, a position whihc he has since filled under the successive administrations of Postmasters Waite, Hutchinson, Martin, Curran, and Waite. He has remained in the office continuously since 1873, while the entire service which he has rendered in connection with the Burlington postoffice covers thirty-seven years. This fact alone is a commentary concerning the character of the service he has rendered.
On the 17th of March, 1870, Mr. Wotring was married to Miss Sarah J. Acres, a daughter of Stephen T. Acres, of the firm of Acres, Blackman & Company, of Burlington. Mr. Wotring was for two years vice-president of the Acres-Blackman Company, and after the death of Mr. Acres he was made trustee of the Acres estate, in connection with his brother-in-law William Pilger.
Mr. and Mrs. Wotring are the parents of three children: George Q., who for five years has been in the office of the Crane Company, of Chicago; Walter S., a student of mechanical engineering in Burlington; and Clarence A., who is attending Elliott's Business College, of this city. The family home is at 723 North Eighth Street, an eleven-room residence, which has been rebuilt by Mr. Wotring and is now a most comfortable and attractive dwelling, where hospitality reigns supreme. In Politics he is a Republican, and he belongs to the Orchard City Hunting and Fishing Club. Both he and his wife are members of the First Methodist church, and Mrs. Wotring belongs to the King's Daughters. Long residents of Burlington, they have a wide and favorabgle acquaintance, and the circle of their friends has grown year by year.
