Milton and Freewater Cemetery

Located South and West of Walla Walla WA near the Walla Walla River. Cemetery overgrown with weeds and in bad repair. Several metal markers, blank stones and some wooden markers still exist with no identification. This land formerly owned by the HARER Family and was first known as the Harer Cemetery. Martha Ellen Reser selected the site for the Valley Chapel Cemetery and was the first person buried there. The first burial established by headstone was an infant child of James Rice in 1874.
Some names appear on original plat map that are not in the foregoing list of burials. These could be plat owners or they could be burials. Measurements were taken to identify the proper family with the right plat, as the original plat had but few names on it with a lot of them illegible. Every effort was made to be accurate as possible but the plat should be used for reference only, as we could find no burial records on some of the listings. The measurements and locations of the lots are correct and we added the family names where identification existed.
