Five children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Reynolds. Clara, the eldest, on November 13, 1881, became the wife of C. H. Bannister, a rancher of Hydesville, and they have four children: Leonard C., deputy sheriff and jailer at Eureka; mabel, wife of W. R. Boyce, who resides at South Fork of Eel river and is station agent for the Northwestern Pacific at Sourth Fork and recent candidate for sheriff, their children being Charles, Clara, Rober and Blaine; George D., living at home and learning the carpenter's trade; Rae, learning the butcher's trade at Shively. C. H. Bannister was born in Missouri, July 31, 1859, came to Hydesville when eleven years old, and now owns a ranch on the Van Dusen about two and one-half miles from Hydesville which he rents to a tenant; Mr. Bannister is a Progressive, and belongs to the Lodge of Independent Order of foresters at Fortuna; he and his wife are members of the Christian Church at Hydesville, Mr. Bannister being a trustee of said church and Mrs. Bannister an active worker in the Sunday School and the Ladies' Aid.....

David Burnett (Bern) Banister, Pioneer of 1883, died Monday near Weston aged 78. He was a retired farmer.
D. B. Banister Dies Weston
WESTON -- David Burnett (Bern) Banister, 78, died Monday morning at the John Banister farm home.
He had been a resident of Umatilla county for 62 years.
Banister was born at Helena, Mont., January 1, 1867, his parents being Mr. and Mrs. Stokes Banister. The family moved to Humboldt county, Calif., and then came to the Wdston vicinity in 1883.
They took up land and engaged in farming. D. B. Banister continuing to farm until he retired about six years ago.
He was married to Mary Pinkerton in 1883 and four children were born: Clifford Banister, Holdman; Ruby Payne, Athena; Ada Lee, Milton and Ida Deiter, Denver.
Mrs. Banister died in 1896 and Bannister was married in 1897 to Firilda Kellar, four children were born, George Banister, Walla Walla; Dolly Stackle, Portland; Rose Banister, Athena and Lee Banister, Weston. There are also 29 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Two brothers also are left, Sam of Enterprise and Scott Banister of Colfax.
It is planned to hold the funeral Thursday.

John W. Chapin Dies; Was Retired Farmer
John W. Chapin, 81, a retired wheat farmer, died at a local hospital Saturday. He had resided here the past 25 years. Chapin was a member of the Latter Day Saints church. He was born September 28, 1868.
Chapin came to Umatilla county when he was 21. He was married to Miss Abbie J. Bannister in 1899. He operated a farm near Weston until 1924 when he moved to Walla Walla to reside with his daughter, Mrs. Minnie Wiley.
His daughter, Mrs. Ed (Areta) VanHorn, also resides in Walla Walla. He was the brother of Ray Chapin, Medford, Ore., and Mrs. Ed Powe, Clarkston. Seven grandchildren also survive.

Robert H. Lee
MILTON-FREEWATER (Special) -- Robert H. Lee, 83, of Route 3, a life-long resident of the Milton-Freewater area, died Wednesday in a Walla Walla hospital.
Lee was born March 13, 1886 on Dry Creek, near Milton-Freewater, the son of early pioneer parents, Hiram and Sarah Lee. He was educated at the Dry creek school and was a wheat farmer on Dry Creek, living there all of his life.
Lee Married Ada Ann Bannister May 26, 1913 in AThena and she died July 8, 1957. A son and two brothers also preceded him in death. Lee was a member of the Herculean Lodge 51 Knights of Pythias.
Surviving Lee are three daughters, Mrs. Harold (Bernita) Piper of Milton-Freewater, Mrs. John (Roberta) Burles of Coos Bay, and Mrs. Charles (Frances Paynter of Portland; two sons, John E. Lee of Milton-Freewater and Howard B. ee of Umatilla; and three sisters, Mrs. Scott (Minnie) Bannister of Colfax, Mrs. Rose Cannono of Portland and Mrs. Daisy Still of Milton-Freewater. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the United Church of Christ, federated Church in Milton-Freewater with Rev. Delbert McAmis officiating. Vault interment will follow in the Milton-Freewater Cemetery.

Birthday Is Happy Event
ATHENA -- The 70th birthday of Mrs. James (Ruby) Collins, Milton-Freewater, was incentive for a dinner Sunday in First Baptist Church. Hosts were her sons-in-law and daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Howard White, Athena, and Mr. and Mrs. Vern Lewis, Hillsboro.
More than 90 relatives from Spokane to Kalama, Wash., and from Bend to Portland and Seaside in Oregon, attended this first reunion in 30 years. From Colfax were Mr. and Mrs. Scott Bannister, uncle and aunt of the honoree, and their family. Brothers and sisters of Mrs. Collins and their spouses included Mr. and Mrs. Mose Bannister, Weston; Mr. and Mrs. George Bannister, Walla Walla; Mrs. Sylvia Stacklie, Portland; and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Keller, Bend. Another sister, Mrs. Blanche Bradley of New Mexico was unable to attend.
The Lewises' nine children and their families were all present except son, Larry, in service in Germany. From Spokane were the Dan Vawters and from McMinnville, Miss Kathy White. Mrs. Vawter, Miss White and George White, Athena, are children of the Howard Whites.

Ruby Payne Collins
Hillsboro - Ruby Payne Collins, a former Athena resident, died Oct. 19th, in Hillsboro. She was 90.
A graveside service was held Friday at Athena Cemetery.
Memorial contributions to the Athena Baptist Church Memorial Fund may be made through Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home Chapel in Milton-Freewater.
Collins was born in Athena on April 10, 1897, the daughter of Bern and Mary Pinkerton Banister. Both of her parents were members of pioneer families. She lived in the Athena area her entire life and was a member of the first graduating class of Athena High School.
In 1916 she married Ross Payne and the couple farmed in the Adams area. They also had ranching interests in Joseph. During WWII, Collins worked at the Pendleton Air Base as a mechanic and received awards as an airplane spotter. Mr. Payne died in 1949.
Collins continued their farming and ranching involvement until her retirement. She married James Collins in M-F in 1954. They were noted there for their support of the high school's sports program and for their community involvement. They also received special awards from the Forestry Department. Mr. Collins preceded her in death on Feb, 1986.
She was honored as Queen of the Weston Pioneer Reunion. She was a member of the Athena Baptist Church and while in M-F, attended the Congregational Church. She was also a past member of Order of the Eastern Star and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include two daughters, Annabelle Lewis of Hillsboro and Laura Jean White of Athena; three step-sons, Ellis Collins of Bainbridge Island, WA, and David and Marcus Collins, both of Seattle, WA; three step-daughters; Melissa Jonas of Alvisa, CA; Leslie Ann Coffman of Wheatridge, CO., and Nancy Gerking of Seattle; 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; 26 step-grandchildren; and 26 step-great grandchildren.

Mrs. Tucker was born on Oct. 6, 1902, at Athena to Samuel Stokes and Etta Elizabeth
Read Bannister. She was raised at Weston and Enterprise, receiving much of her
education at Enterprise. She married Grant Monroe Tucker at Enterprise on Oct. 18,
1920. They lived at Union.
After Mr. Tucker's death she moved to Baker City to be with her family. Mrs. Tucker
was a member of the Union Women's Club and Eastern Star.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Nadine and Norman Baxter of Baker
City; grandsons, Greg Baxter and Dean Baxter, both of Baker City, and Grant Baxter
of Fruitland, Idaho; granddaughter, Maxine Christofferson, of Lehi, Utah; 24
great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a daughter.
Coles Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Wiley Dies At Home Here
Minnie Lee Wiley, of 885 Pleasant, died at her home Saturday. She was 52.
She was born in Weston May 6, 1904, and attended school there, graduating from high school ihn 1922. She attended college for one year and taught public school for one year. In 1926 she moved to Walla Walla, where she was employed in a local laundry for many years. She was a member and active worker of the Evangelical United Brethren Church and was superintendent of the Sunday School.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Dave (Pattie) Tittman of Spokane and Mrs. Shirley Ward of Walla Walla; one son, James R. Wiley of Walla Walla; one sister, Mrs. Edward (Rita) Van Horn of Walla Walla; and four grandchildren. The funeral is planned for 1:30 p.m. Monday at a local funeral home. Interment will be in Mountain View Cemetery.

John E. lee
John E. Lee, 759 Village Way, Walla Walla, formerly of Milton-Freewater, passed away August 5, 1997 at his home at the age of 70 years.
Funeral services were Friday, August 8, at the Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home Chapel in Milton-Freewater with Rev. Sally Carlson of the Grace Presbyterian Church officiating. Concluding services and interment were in the Milton-Freewater Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Walla Walla Community Hospice or the charity of the donor's choice through the funeral home.
Mr. Lee was born May 8, 1927 at his family's home on Dry Creek near M-F, the son of Robert and Ada Bannister Lee. He attended Grove and Central schools and graduated from McLoughlin Union High School in 1945. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, receiving the WWII Victory Medal and American Area Campaign Medal. After his discharge from the Navy he attended Oregon State University.
On September 4, 1949 he married Patricia Ann Porter at the Federated Church in M-F. The couple lived and worked in the North Richland area of Washington where Mr. Lee worked in construction in the Hanford area. From 1957 to 1967 the couple farmed the Lee Homestead south of M-F where he was born. In 1967 they settled on an irrigated tract of ground near Umapine, farming there until 1996 when they moved to their present residence, a new house which Mr. Lee designed and furnished.
Mr. Lee was a family man and enjoyed his children and all aspects of his farming operation. Several nieces and nephews spent summers helping with work on the farm. He was a member of the American Legion and helped with their annual dinners. He enjoyed fishing, camping and fishing for salmon in the Pacific Ocean. He liked to play cards with his family and bridge and poker with his friends. Mr. Lee helped with Cub Scouts and Little League when his boys were that age. He was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church, American Legion Post #24, and was a past board member of Pendleton Grain Growers and was a past board member and owner of Century Chemical in Milton-Freewater.
Mr. Lee is survived by his wife Patricia Lee at the home; two sons, John D. Lee and David Lee, both of M-F; two daughters, Peggy Ann Johnson of Salem OR, and Susan E. Reedy of Jefferson, OR; three sisters, Roberta Burles of Lakeside, OR, Bernita Piper of Walla Walla, and Frances Paynter of Portland, five grandsons, Andrew Lee, Nathan Lee, and John Brinker Lee, all of M-F, and Jacob Reedy, and Daniel Reedy, both of Jefferson, OR; one granddaughter, Stefani E. Lee of M-F, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Mr. Lee was preceded in death by two brothers, Howard B. and Donald D. Lee.
