That's no adulteress, that's my grandmother...A U-B story the day before Halloween on a haunted house in Dayton caused quite a stir for Novella Davis Reece. After the article made its way to Reece's home in Mountain City, TN she fired off letters to the U-B and the Dayton home's owners, Wallace and Linda Harting. The Hartings, readers may recall, weren't sure about the origins of a stern-looking woman whose picture was found in the house. They surmised it might be that of a farmwife - said to be one of seven ghosts who frequent the place - who died after having an affair. Not so, said Reece. The picture is of her grandmother, who also happens to be a great-grandmother of Wallace Harting. The woman, Sallie L. Council Davis, joined her husband in spreading the gospel in northeastern Tennessee and western North Carolina. She never made it out West. Wallace Harting said he had never met Reece, who identified herself as being a first cousin of his late mother, Juanita Hubbs Harting. His reaction to her letters: "I find it intriguing that somebody that far away gets this (the newspaper story), and is able to recognize it. It just shows you how small this world really is.
