Touchet Resident Dies Here, Age 87
Mrs Emily Sophronia Hill, 87, of Touchet, died Wednesday at a local nursing home.
She was born Nov 14, 1864 near Milton-Freewater on the Walla Walla River, and spent most of her life there until the last few years which she spent with her children.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar, in 1925, and is survived by six children, A. W. Hill of Touchet, Frank Hill of Portland, Wilbur Hill of San Jacinto, Calif., Mrs Fern Henry of Milton-Freewater. Mrs Lucille Lillianthal of Spokane and Mrs Geraldine LeRoy of Tucson, Ariz., and 13 grandchildren.
Hill-- Funeral Services for the late Mrs. Emily Sophronia Hill of Touchet will be a 2 P.m. Friday, Jan 18 at the DeWitt Funeral home chapel. Interment Mountain View Cemetery. Rev Otto Gruber officiating. The DeWitt Funeral home, funeral director.

Fern V Henry
Mrs Fern V. Henry, 77 of 907 Robbins St., Milton-Freewater, died yesterday in a Milton-Freewater Nursing home.
She was born Sept. 19, 1896 in Milton-Freewater. Her grandparents traveled here in a covered wagon and settled at the fork of the Walla Walla River where they operated a blacksmith shop. Mrs. Henry married John D. Henry in Walla Walla July 17, 1914. He was an employe of the County Road Dept. She was preceded in death by Mr. Henry in Oct. 1971.
She was a member of the Untied Church of Christ Federated Church and a charter member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary.
Survivors include her son Allan Henry of Portland, Ore.; her daughters, Mrs. Frances Chenoweth of Milton-Freewater, Mrs. Tom (Dorothy) Little of Portland, Ore., Mrs. Gene (Willa) Taylor of Wallowa; her sisters, Mrs. W. A. (Lucille) Lilienthal of Spokane, Mrs. K. C. (Geraldine) LeRoy of Tucson, Ariz.; seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
Friends who wish may call at Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home to pay their respects as the casket will not be opened at the services.

Leota Marie Hill died May 16, 2004, at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, WA. She was born July 23, 1929, in Morrill, Nebraska, to John and Elinor Croft. She moved with her family to Walla Walla, WA, in 1932 and graduated from Walla Walla High School in 1947.
Coming from a family of florists, Leota had a great love of flowers. She grew up working in the Croft family greenhouses and then at Croft's Flower Shop.
In 1950, she married Brant A. Hill. They were married for 25 years. Leota was a longtime Walla Walla resident, living there for 43 years.
After this, Leota lived for several years in Sun City, Arizona and then moved to the Seattle area where she worked at Seaflo Wholesale Floral. She then moved to Kennewick. In retirement, she moved to Spokane, to be closer to her sister and her mother. They enjoyed traveling and sightseeing.
Leota spent many hours designing and creating quilts for her own enjoyment and for family members and friends.
Survivors include two daughters, Sandy Kuffel and husband John of Kennewick; Marie Gagnon and husband Louis of Waitsburg, WA; sister Crystal Henley of Spokane; brother James Croft of Hobart, WA; five grandchildren, Nicholas and Matthew Kuffel, Jarod and Mitchell Gagnon and Lindsey Niles.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Stewart Croft and Ralph Croft, sister, Betty Meier and her son, Steven Hill.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 5, 2004, at 1 p.m. at Riverview Heights Cemetery in Kennewick, WA.
